An undiscovered paradise is waiting to be discovered

Andros, the island of seafaring and shipowners, the island of Theophilos Kairis and the oldest European city.

The Princess of the Aegean, with its refinement and simplicity, is one of the most popular tourist resorts, due to its natural beauty, culture and special aesthetic colour.

At a distance of only 2 hours from Athens, you will discover an island that has enchanting beaches, excellent local cuisine, great archaeological and historical monuments, verdant valleys, vast areas with olive trees, gorges and crystal clear running waters.

Tourlitis Lighthouse

One of the main proposals for exploration is Batsi, one of the busiest places on the island and one of the main proposals for accommodation and entertainment, located on two hills that surround the homonymous bay. Here, you will be charmed by the Cycladic landscape, the small port and the wonderful beach of the settlement, which is considered one of the best in Andros.

It is also the Town of Andros, the capital of the island, where you can visit the Tourlitis Lighthouse, the only lighthouse in Greece located in the sea, the famous Museums (Archaeological, Folklore, Maritime and Contemporary Art), the Kabanis Fountain, the Churches of the Dormition of the Virgin, Agia Tsoura, Agios Georgios and Panagia tis Theoskepasti.

Andros, the island of seafaring and culture, known for the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Archaeological Museum of Paleopolis, the traditional and historical Towers, exudes a pervasive sense of nobility and refinement.

In Andros, the Kaireios library in the name of the Andriotian philosopher Theophilos Kairis dominates with over 60,000 rare books and manuscripts and is located just above the Nautical Museum of Chora, the historical gathering point of representative Andriotian naval history.

Nature and hiking

Andros, one of the top hiking destinations in Europe, has an extremely interesting network of paths, which until the beginning of the 20th century internally connected the mountainous and semi-mountainous villages with the port and the capital.

Thousands of visitors from all over the world, every year walk around 100km and enjoy unique experiences in nature, the arched bridges, the waterfalls, the traditional watermills, the picturesque chapels, the green villages and the springs with abundant water.

The network of trails is maintained and supported by the Andros Routes team and is one of the most important images that place Andros high on the list of nature-loving tourism.

Historic monasteries

Andros monasteries

Religious tourism is experiencing – and rightfully so – great growth in Andros, which has historic monasteries whose construction is lost in the depths of the centuries.

The Monastery of Agios Nikolaos in Achla, the Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi in Kypri, the Monastery of Agia Marina and the Monastery of Panahrantos in Korthi are some of the most famous monasteries with great historical and religious value.

The nautical tradition meets the religious devotion which, together with the historical value, surround the visitor with an aura of upliftment of soul and spirit and give the visit to Andros another dimension.

ANDROS

Traditional villages

Whilst being on the main road of Batsi, at Saint Phillips church, we make a turn to the main land, beginning the enchanting experience of reaching the mountainous Andros.

Mountainous, green villages, with rich virgin vegetation, traditional Cycladic architecture with slates, stone-paved paths, arched bridges and countless natural reservoirs, that the locals call “pelgo”, make up an enchanting landscape.

Not by chance, the hinterland of Andros bears the name “Little Switzerland” mainly in the arc that runs through the villages of Katakoilos, Remmata, Arni and Vourkoti.

We are at your disposal to suggest unexplored routes and attractions and to plan with you the exploration of Andros.

Andros gastronomy

Andros’ gastronomy faithfully follows the style and character of the island. Sophisticated and refined, traditional yet stately, it harmoniously combines local ingredients and presents dishes of high culinary originality.

In the traditional mountain taverns as well as in the respectfully modernized seaside restaurants, you will discover unique recipes that are renewed according to the season.

Lambriatis at Easter with a traditional filling that you will find all year round, rooster with spaghetti, artichokes with rice, bean omelette and of course the flagship of Andriot cuisine, the furtalia which is still made in the classic and traditional way. Kaltsounia, amigdalota, pastitsakia and pastelaria will complete your meal in the sweetest way.
